Escaped the dreads of Duncannon. Enjoyed our stay at Matt’s house last night. My bed was so comfy and soft. I felt like I was sleeping on a cloud.
I wanted to hike 5 more miles today. I thought a 6:45am start would ensure my success of a long hike but a visit to the Hard Rock Cafe shortened that deal. Did I say Cafe. My error. It was more like hard rock cliffs
The trail was so rough and full of rocks. It wasn’t evenly spaced rocks. It was more like a shark’s mouth with bad dental work. A gigantic mouth full of row after row after row of molars, bicuspids, canines and laterals all at funky angles protruding every where just waiting to take a bite out of my feet. Fun but very tiring. My feet informed me that they were not going any further. Not even to get water. I would rather slightly dehydrate then climb the 300 rock steps down to the spring from the shelter.
This pic doesn’t even show the bad stuff. I was too lazy to go any further. A young buck of a hiker said it was “ridiculously” steep and hard. If he said that, I wasn’t even going to attempt it. Next water source is about 7 miles. I have 1 liter. That will hold me through the night until I get to the next spring.
Happy Hiking
